VegasBeat — Timothy McDarrah: Manager: Horn improvement ‘phenomenal’

Talk about miracles.

"Siegfried, Roy and I had dinner last night. Roy had a steak and a glass of wine," the duo's manager, Bernie Yuman, told VegasBeat on Monday.

"He spends eight hours a day in various forms of therapy, but other than that, he is recovering magnificently. Roy is off the respirator, is walking by himself, and there is no longer medical equipment needed for his functioning activities," Yuman told us during a phone conversation.

"He is totally cognizant of everything at all times," Yuman said. "His improvement from Oct. 3, 2003, through March 1, 2004, has been nothing short of phenomenal."

It was five months ago Wednesday that Horn was nearly killed after an onstage incident with a white tiger during show at The Mirage.

We asked Yuman if Horn had a message for the millions of fans around the world who have closely followed his stunning recovery.

Through Yuman, Horn said he was sure that the love and prayers from his fans have had much to do with his recovery.

Yuman said that Horn has no immediate plans for a public coming out. Published reports elsewhere hinted that an Easter event of some sort was being planned.

"We are still totally focused on his recovery. We'll get to other things down the road," Yuman told us.

Yuman also said that former President Bill Clinton spent over an hour with Horn during last week's visit, which we reported on Monday.

Destination Fox

Clint Holmes, appearing on the KVVU Channel 5 morning news show on Monday, said that his talk show, "Vegas Live! With Clint Holmes and Sheena Easton," is indeed moving to the Fox affiliate.

"We are coming to Fox," Holmes said of his show, which has been off the air since Feb. 23 as its producers search for a production facility that can accommodate a live studio audience.

KVVU General Manager Susan Lucas has said that she is preparing for the show to make a mid-March debut on her station.

25 and counting

The Barbary Coast opened 25 years ago today.

To mark the milestone, owner Michael Gaughan will offer complimentary champagne and cake to patrons until 7 this evening, and the Strip hotel will feature several other giveaways and contests throughout the month.

"This is a great milestone for us. The Strip, including many of our neighbors, has gone through many changes over the past several years, but Barbary has stood the test of time," Gaughan said. "We plan to commemorate this momentous occasion by celebrating throughout 2004."

The Victorian-themed hotel was the first for Coast Casinos, which include Gold Coast (1986), The Orleans (1996) and Suncoast (2000).

More Oscar

Wolfgang Puck, who catered The Governor's Ball post-Oscar party in Hollywood Sunday night (where he fed the likes of Sean Penn, Julia Roberts, Nicole Kidman, Johnny Depp, Charlize Theron and Oprah Winfrey), is far from finished in Vegas.

He's telling friends that he "hopes to have a total of eight restaurants in Las Vegas by 2007 and maybe 10 by 2010," Robin Leach told us at the Caesars Palace Oscar party Sunday night.

Puck now has four Vegas restaurants, and is reopening the Wolfgang Puck Grill (formerly Cafe) at the MGM Grand this summer.

"Wolfgang told me that Las Vegas is the only place to concentrate on opening new restaurants -- better than anywhere else in America," Leach said. Leach spoke to Puck during their joint appearance on "The View" when it was recently taping at Caesars Palace.

Gubernatorial pals: Politics made for particularly strange bedfellows when California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and the man he helped drive from office turned up together on "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno" to trade quips and campaign for a $15 billion bond measure.

Schwarzenegger, who used show to announce he would be a candidate to replace former Gov. Gray Davis in last year's recall election, said Monday night the two are now good friends.

Cooke retiring: Alistair Cooke, whose weekly "Letter From America" has been a radio fixture in Britain for 58 years, is retiring at age 95, the British Broadcasting Corp. said today. Cooke, who missed last week's broadcast, accepted the advice of his doctors that he should retire, the BBC said.

Who's that voice? The late John Entwistle may be heard on The Who's next album, the band's first in 21 years, a band member said Monday.

The band wants to use a bass line Entwistle recorded during rehearsals shortly before the 57-year-old bass player was found dead in his Las Vegas hotel room on June 27, 2002.

The two surviving band members, singer Roger Daltrey and guitarist Pete Townshend, have hired musicians to fill in for Entwistle and drummer Keith Moon, who died in 1978.
