Interim president of college OK’d

The university Board of Regents on Monday unanimously approved the hiring and contracts for two key positions, including interim president of Nevada State College at Henderson.
Regents appointed Patricia K. Miltenberger as the interim leader of Nevada State College at the recommendation of Interim Chancellor Jim Rogers and approved the contract for new University of Nevada, Reno head basketball coach Mark Fox.
Miltenberger has more than 30 years of experience working in administrative roles in the system, including helping with Nevada State College's accreditation process, Rogers said.
"No one else can come close to her" in filling this role, Rogers said.
Miltenberger is a retired educational leadership professor at UNR who still teaches there part time.
She will receive 90 percent of former President Kerry Romesburg's $195,000 salary and the same housing and automobile benefits Romesburg received, Rogers said. Her salary and benefits will only last as long as she serves in the interim role.
Regents also approved a $250,000-a-year base salary contract for head basketball coach Fox. The three-year contract includes typical fringe benefits, such as a courtesy automobile and insurance, a guaranteed pay raise of $10,000 each year and an incentive package for NCAA tournament appearances.
Fox's total contract represents an $86,632 increase in the position's salary, according to system officials.
Fox, an assistant under former coach Trent Johnson, was hired earlier this month after Johnson left to coach at Stanford.
Fox has been a Division I assistant for 11 years at UNR, Kansas State and Washington. He is credited with helping Johnson lead the men's basketball team for the first time to the NCAA tournament's "Sweet Sixteen" this past season.
Because Fox's wife, Cindy, is the associate athletic director at UNR, regents made the approval of his contract contingent upon UNR filing a written document showing that Fox will never report to his spouse.
