Four awarded scholarships in the arts

Four Nevada high school seniors have received $500 college scholarships from the Nevada Arts Advocates for excellence in theater, dance, art and music.

Sarah Snodgrass of Las Vegas received the award for visual art, Timothy Woods of Sparks for music, Karen Reynolds of Reno for dance and Amanda Hallstein of Gardnerville for theater. The four were chosen from 20 applicants who plan to further their studies in the arts.

Scholarship funds are raised by Nevada Arts Advocates' annual gala and silent auction. The fifth annual Arts and Advocacy Gala is scheduled to take place in October at the Rio and will honor former Gov. Bob Miller. Call 362-8885 for more information.

Nevada Arts Advocates, founded in 1977, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing cultural arts through education and advocacy.
