Unusual weather cools area

Monday, June 28, 2004 | 11:08 a.m.

An unusual weather pattern for this time of year has struck the Las Vegas Valley and will persist until at least July 4, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service said.

A weak area of low pressure off the California coast moved into the area, producing clouds that lowered the temperature and brought some rain, Clay Morgan, a meterologist with the local office of the National Weather Service said.

The pattern produced scattered showers in portions of the valley over the weekend. However, the official weather observation site at McCarran International Airport recorded no rain. Morgan said the local office recorded only trace amounts.

Unusually low temperatures also were recorded through the area as a result of the weather pattern, Morgan said.
