UNLV announces leadership changes

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas, on Friday announced leadership changes in two of the school's colleges.

Michael Murray, currently a professor at the University of Missouri, St. Louis, on Thursday will take over the newly formed Hank Greenspun School of Journalism and Media Studies, replacing David Henry, who was director of the college, formerly the Hank Greenspun School of Communication.

The Las Vegas Sun is published by the Greenspun family.

Henry will remain as chair of the newly formed department of communication studies.

Murray holds a doctorate from the University of Missouri, Columbia, and had worked for NBC and CBS news. He also founded and directed the communication and journalism program at the University of Louisville.

Meanwhile, UNLV leaders have named education professor John Readence as the dean for University College, the school's newest degree-granting unit. Readence, who holds a doctorate from Arizona State University, has been a member of the UNLV faculty since 1993.

University College was formed to mentor students without declared majors and focuses on providing students with an interdisciplinary curriculum.
