Henderson settles with developer

A property condemnation issue that lingered for several years, in which Henderson officials and a local developer remained "millions of dollars" apart, has been settled, Henderson officials said.
The Henderson City Council earlier this month approved a $3.35 million settlement with the Thomas & Mack Co. over the taking of land to widen Sunset Road near U.S. 95 and realign Gibson Road in 2000. The project affected a 17-acre parcel at Sunset and Gibson owned by Thomas & Mack.
"This matter was several years old and we were millions of dollars apart," Henderson City Attorney Shauna Hughes said today. "We felt the land's value was in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, and they felt it was worth in the millions of dollars. I'd say it (the settlement) is not far from the middle."
