Children's film
The Cultural Affairs Division of the Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services presents the movie "Aladdin" 2 p.m. Thursday at the East Las Vegas Community/Senior Center, 250 N. Eastern Ave., as part of its "Summer Children's Film Series." Admission is free. 229-1515.
Barn dance
The Southern Nevada Old Time Contra Dancers present an "Old Time Barn Dance" from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Charleston Heights Arts Center Ballroom, 800 S. Brush St. Admission is $6 adults, $5 members, $3 students and active military, free children under 15. 229-6383.
Reading/signing
Author I.M. Nur will read excerpts from his book "The Meaning of Blackness: Uncovering the Secret of Secrets -- The Nature and Destiny of a People," at 2 p.m. Saturday at the West Las Vegas Library, 951 W. Lake Mead Blvd. A book signing will follow. Admission is free. 507-3980.
Book signing

'Amazing Castle'
The traveling interactive exhibit, "The Amazing Castle," continues until Aug. 29 at the Lied Discovery Children's Museum, 833 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Admission is $6 adults, $5 children 1-17, seniors and military families. 382-3445.
