UNLV, Wisconsin set for national TV
UNLV's football game at Wisconsin on Sept. 11 has been set for 11 a.m. CDT -- 9 a.m. in Las Vegas -- and will be shown nationally by ESPN.
This marks the third consecutive season the teams will play each other on national television. Last year, UNLV upset the 14th-ranked Badgers 23-5 in Madison.
Wie advances
Michelle Wie was 3 under before a 50-minute weather stoppage and 2 over after it as stroke-play qualifying concluded in the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship.
Germany ousted
Three-time champion Germany was eliminated from the European Championship, losing its final first-round game to the Czech Republic 2-1 as the Netherlands advanced by beating Latvia 3-0.
McBains will return
The Las Vegas Wranglers this morning announced that defenseman Jason and Mike McBain have re-signed with the team for the 2004-05 ECHL season. Jason McBain, the team captain, was a second-team All-ECHL selection last season.
No felony for Bush
Maricopa County (Ariz.) prosecutors will not pursue a felony charge against the San Diego Padres' No. 1 draft choice, Matt Bush, who was arrested for allegedly biting a bouncer at a bar.
Fisher leaves Lakers
Derek Fisher, a member of the Los Angeles Lakers the past eight seasons, opted out of his contract to become an unrestricted free agent.
Calzaghe bout off
Joe Calzaghe today pulled out of his June 12 fight with IBF light heavyweight champion Glencoffe Johnson because of a back injury.
