Opportunity Village celebrates 50 years
Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., and U.S. District Judge Lloyd George will join nearly 1,000 other Opportunity Village supporters in a toast to the organization's half-century of service 7 p.m Friday at Paris Las Vegas.
The festivities will include a silent auction, live music by the Las Vegas All Star Band and various local entertainers.
Honorary co-chairs, Bill Boyd, Kitty Rodman and Mike Morrissey, will host the celebration.

Benefit golf event planned at TPC
Wal-Mart will present its first charity golf tournament, co-sponsored by Toyota, to benefit the First Tee of Southern Nevada beginning with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Wednesday at TPC at the Canyons, 9851 Canyon Run Drive.
The tournament brings together the funding support of community oriented corporations such as Wal-Mart, Toyota, the Greenspun Corporation, Coca-Cola, Pepsi, DeLuca Liquor, Nevada Beverage and many more.

Basketball camp planned for kids
Hoops for Hope Basketball Camp is set July 29-31, with college basketball players teaching fundamentals to children ages 8 to 13.
The three-day camp will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day at the Doolittle Community Center, 1901 North J St.
The young athletes will be coached by players from the universities of Southern Utah, Tennessee, Oregon, Utah and San Diego State, as well as by former University of Nevada, Las Vegas players.
The $225 camp registration fee includes a T-shirt, water bottle, sports bag, daily breakfast snack and lunch. Parents of camp participants are invited to a free workshop on July 31 to learn how to prepare for college basketball recruiters and other college opportunities.
Prizes will be awarded in a camp shoot-out contest and hot shot contest. Participants will hear daily power speeches from coaches Buzz Peterson, Terry Dunn, Lon Kruger and Steve Fischer.
Advance registration is required by July 19. Proceeds from the basketball camp will be used to fund scholarships for low-income youth in Las Vegas recreation programs.

EstroGYM for Women,
a 30-minute workout facility, is sponsoring a Christmas in July program to benefit patients at Sunrise Children's Hospital. There will be a "wish" tree at EstroGYM the entire month of June. The tree will have the items the children need hanging from its boughs. Santa will deliver the gifts to the children at 2 p.m. July 15 at the EstroGYM facility, 5431 S. Rainbow Blvd., Suite C-2. The annual Olive Crest Golf Tournament,
