The executive director of the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District will continue his five-year term after receiving unanimous praise Tuesday from the board during his performance evaluation.
Board members congratulated Executive Director Daniel Walters for successfully coping with the Las Vegas Valley's rapidly growing population and the district's shrinking budget, and expressed their confidence that he would overcome future budgetary challenges.
Walters said he also will be considered for a salary increase within four to six weeks, after an independent study is conducted to compare his compensation with his peers nationwide.
"He has been a very strong, dynamic leader, moving the library district forward," acting Chairwoman Verlia Davis-Hoggard said.
Board member Aldo Aguirre said the director's management skills will be further tested in the coming year.
"We have yet to see the best of Walters with the challenges that come before us, unless we can prepare as a community by providing the necessary funds to maintain the quality of service that we must give our constituents," he said.
