Remington, Rogers meet

A settlement may resolve the ongoing Board of Regents saga of whether two demoted community college officials will ever return to work, officials said Monday.
Demoted Community College of Southern Nevada President Ron Remington and his attorney, Kathleen England, met Monday with Interim Chancellor Jim Rogers at the Las Vegas office of the University and Community College System of Nevada.
England and system attorneys postponed a District Court summary judgment hearing scheduled for earlier Monday morning until June 30 to give the two sides time to negotiate a possible settlement, England said.
Neither England, Rogers or regents would comment on the settlement negotiations, other than to verify that the two sides were discussing options to resolve the ongoing legal battle.
District Judge Jackie Glass is still scheduled to rule on the remaining issues in Remington's lawsuit against the Board of Regents, actions that would not be necessary if a settlement agreement is reached. Glass ruled last week that regents violated the open-meeting law during the Nov. 17 and Nov. 20 closed sessions that proceeded Remington's demotion, and that the demotions of Remington and of CCSN lobbyist John Cummings were "null and void."
Because Glass did not address whether or not a December meeting resolved the matter, there has been ongoing debate between the opposing parties about whether or not Glass' order reinstated Remington and Cummings to their administrative positions.
