Letter: Federal contracts spur outsourcers

As a fifth-generation Republican, I feel compelled to say that I am completely revolted by many of the contracting and procurement policies of our neocon administration. Nevada' Republican congressmen, Jon Porter and Jim Gibbons, did their part by voting to award a massive Homeland Security Department database contract to Bermuda-based Accenture Corp.
In addition to being a notorious outsourcer, Accenture's Bermuda base allows it to avoid a heavier U.S. tax burden. As one congresswoman stated, "If you want to feed at the public trough, you have to pay your taxes." The award to Accenture is definitely "gray" by the Homeland Security Department's own regulations governing expatriate corporations.
There also seems to have been no debate regarding the security of outsourcing vital visa information. On the other hand, since the Republican National Committee outsources its database work, Porter and Gibbons must feel that jobs and security are not issues.
