Letter: Bush suppresses information
Tuesday, June 15, 2004 | 9:03 a.m.
Brian Greenspun's June 6 column about the absence of malice was a pleasure to read, as is most everything he writes. His good sense and clarity is what journalism is all about.
There is a plethora of problems facing U.S. citizens today, including those who are financially secure as well as those who are in the middle class and those who are poor. The very least we deserve is the truth.
I was brought up to believe in the written word, even though I understood the stretching of the truth that has always existed. What bothers me most in today's world is that when it's not politically correct or helpful to this absurd Bush administration, we the people get to read nothing at all, and that's not fair.
The government owes its citizens an explanation for everything it does, what it's going to do and what it's going to cost. When you withhold information, distort the truth, or lie to the people, you should go straight to jail, whether you're the president of the United States or a journalist.
