Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman said Thursday that he was ready to start raising $125 million needed to build a seven-story academic medical center downtown on the 61 acres owned by the city.
Businessman Larry Ruvo already has donated $7 million toward the project, for an Alzheimer's research facility. Goodman said the $125 million includes other research disciplines, and he said he would take the lead in raising money.
Goodman also has been trying to secure a relationship with the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic. A report assessing the possibility of the clinic locating downtown is under review by the clinic, and Goodman said he hopes for an answer within 30 days.
