Letter: Nevada Power should do more to decrease rates

Thursday, June 10, 2004 | 9:28 a.m.

Beneath it are suggestions to help me save money on my bill, such as setting my thermostat to 86 degrees when I'm sleeping (well, that sounds comfortable). Or blocking out all sunlight in my home and living like a bat. Another suggestion is to "cook outdoors whenever possible." I don't know about you, but I just love coming home from a long day of work and cooking outdoors when it's 110 degrees.

I don't understand where the "partnership" is in this deal. After Nevada Power mismanaged its resources and made poor business decisions, it raised my rates so high that my electric bill is as bad as another house payment. Now it's offering me helpful suggestions like these to "help me save money."

When do I get my turn to offer them a few suggestions? What are they doing on their end to lower my rates, or even to just keep them from increasing further? I don't know about you, but I resent Nevada Power's patronizing advice. I would like a new "partner."
