SUN CAPITAL BUREAU
CARSON CITY -- The request by the state Ethics Commission to open a branch office in Las Vegas has been put on hold for at least another month.
The state Board of Examiners on Tuesday postponed action on the commission's request for an additional $101,908 from an emergency fund to hire one employee and to set up the proposed Las Vegas office.
Gov. Kenny Guinn, chairman of the board, said he wanted more information including the exact number of requests for opinions from Northern Nevada versus the number of requests for opinions from Southern Nevada. No one from the Ethics Commission was present at the meeting to provide the information.
The board postponed a vote until its meeting in July.
Board Executive Director Stacy Jennings said in the written request to the board there has been a 61 percent increase in requests for opinions this biennium, compared to the prior two years. About one third of the written requests come from Las Vegas, she said.
