Second meeting set on water monitoring
Tuesday, June 8, 2004 | 11:49 a.m.
The second in a series of meetings to discuss planned groundwater monitoring at the Desert National Wildlife Refuge north of Las Vegas is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Southern Nevada Water Authority offices.
The meeting, set for the River Mountains Conference Room at the facility at 1900 E. Flamingo Road, will include technical experts from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and water authority officials.
Environmentalists have expressed concerns over the possible construction of about a dozen monitoring wells designed to study the flow of groundwater at the 1.5 million-acre wildlife refuge that was created in 1936. Officials say the meetings are preliminary and, while they are open to the public, no public comment will be taken.
