80-year-old man jailed after girlfriend stabbed to death

Monday, June 7, 2004 | 11:40 a.m.

An 80-year-old man was arrested Friday in the stabbing death of his 73-year-old girlfriend outside a beauty salon on Rainbow Boulevard.

Jerry Duncan was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on a murder charge in connection with the slaying of Norma Laub.

A woman called 911 about 2 p.m. Friday reporting that a woman was lying inside a white Saturn, bleeding from the neck in a shopping center parking lot outside the Self-Expressions salon on Rainbow near Sahara Avenue.

About 15 minutes later, Duncan called 911 and said he had just stabbed his girlfriend to death, the police report says.

Duncan said he had taken several pain pills and wanted to die, the report says. He also told the 911 dispatcher that he had a loaded shotgun and would shoot any officers who approached his apartment.

Patrol officers arrived at Duncan's home in the 6400 block of Casada Way, about a mile from the crime scene. Duncan refused to come out of his apartment, the report says.

Police began negotiations with Duncan and he surrendered 15 minutes later. He was taken to University Medical Center for treatment for the injestion of pills.

"Duncan told the paramedic ... that he wanted to die because he had just killed his girlfriend," the police report says.

Detectives obtained a warrant to search Duncan's apartment and found a folding knife with apparent blood on it along with a pair of men's jeans, black shoes and a gold watch that all appeared to be smeared with blood.

Duncan's car, a white 1989 Lincoln Town Car, also had blood stains on the inside of the driver's side door and on the trunk, the report says.

He was booked into the jail Friday evening and is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.
