Summer is still a month away, but it isn't too early to begin thinking about Christmas.
Local producer/performer Tony Sacca has created an entertainment special to help raise funds to send a group of young singers to Washington, D.C., for an engagement in December.
A performance of "Las Vegas Sings for America" will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Stratosphere. The production will be taped for airing locally and nationally at a later date.
The revue will feature a cast that includes Lt. Gov. Lorraine Hunt, pianists Mark & Clark, lounge legend Cook E. Jarr, comedian Sandy Hackett, jazz vocalist Laurence T. and the Helen Joy's Young Entertainers.
Music will be provided by the Michael T. Orchestra, with musical director Mike Tramontana on drums.
"Helen Joy's Young Entertainers have been given the honor to perform at the White House this Holiday Season," said Sacca, who will also entertain at the gala affair. "However, the kids must pay their own costs."
Sacca estimates expenses will about $2,500 per child.
The requested donation for admission is $25.
A V.I.P. donation of $2,000 will include V.I.P booth seating. A corporate donation of $1,500 will include a table for 10.
The patriotic production is patterned after Sacca's annual "Merry Christmas Las Vegas" show, a seasonal fixture for 18 years.
Sacca says "Las Vegas Sings for America" also will be an annual event.
"This is a tribute to America for our liberties, freedom and pride of our country," Sacca, a former Marine, said. "This Patriotic performance is presented as a gift from the headliners of the Entertainment Capital of the World, in support of the children who will be the headliners of tomorrow."
