Man killed Thursday ID'd

The man who was shot to death early Thursday at the graffiti-marred Wood Lake Villas, 4747 Pennwood Ave., was 21-year-old Jeron S. Ishmael of Las Vegas, the Clark County coroner's office said.

Metro Police found Ishmael in the parking lot of the apartment complex about 5 a.m. Thursday after responding to reports of gunshots in the area, police said.

Ishmael was transported to University Medical Center, where he later died.

Investigators are interviewing residents but have no suspects. Anyone with information is urged to call Metro's homicide division at 229-3521 or Crime Stoppers at 385-5555.

Bicyclist shot after confrontation

Metro Police this morning were investigating the shooting of a Las Vegas bicyclist Thursday night.

The 33-year-old man, whose name was not available this morning, was riding his bicycle near King Midas Way and Silver Dollar Avenue about 10:30 p.m. Thursday when he was confront by the driver of a vehicle, described by witnesses as either a blue compact truck or a white compact car, Officer Jose Montoya said.

The suspect then opened fire on the man, shooting him four times before speeding away, Montoya said.

The victim was able to run into the intersection, where he was spotted by a nearby ambulance, Montoya said. He underwent surgery this morning for the gunshot wounds and is expected to live.

Two arrested after girls' fight

Two North Las Vegas men were arrested Thursday afternoon for allegedly obstructing police officers trying to break up a fight that broke out after the last day of school.

Adrian Scott and Anthony Johnson, both 18, were arrested after officers responded to a fight between two 17-year-old girls in the 5400 block of Seawater Drive in North Las Vegas.

The fight had already broken up by the time officers arrived, but Scott and Johnson were using their cars to block police access to the street, said Sgt. Justin Roberts, a spokesman for the North Las Vegas Police Department.

About eight people were watching the fight, which took place outside one of the girls' homes, Roberts said.

The girls, one of whom kicked out the back window of a patrol car after being placed in handcuffs, were cited for obstruction of justice, Roberts said.

The department had stepped up patrols in the city for the last day of school, which generally sees a jump in the number of minor crimes by juveniles, Roberts said.

It's hot, but not a record-breaker

Thursday's heat exceeded all expectations, but it didn't break the record.

The temperature reached 106 degrees Thursday, one degree shy of the 107-degree record set June 3, 1957, according to the National Weather Service.

Expect similar temperatures today and Saturday before a cooling trend begins on Sunday.
