USC's Williams aims for reinstatement
Kept out of the NFL draft by the courts, wide receiver Mike Williams will ask the NCAA to let him return to college football.
Williams said he is leaving agent Mike Azzarelli and has sent Southern California paperwork to file with the NCAA that could make him eligible to play for the Trojans in the fall.
He said he was disappointed to be barred from the draft and left open the possibility of trying to enter the NFL again if the NCAA doesn't accept his request.
Stadler cited for DWI
Craig Stadler pleaded guilty to operating a vehicle while impaired Wednesday after he was arrested for drunken driving, and withdrew from the Farmers Charity Classic.
Stadler, 51, was charged with driving while intoxicated following his arrest Monday evening in nearby Ionia (Mich.) County. He pleaded guilty to the reduced count Wednesday, assistant Ionia County prosecutor Lori Kirkhoff said.
Montgomery probed
U.S. doping officials have turned their focus to sprinter Tim Montgomery, meeting with his attorney Wednesday as part of their investigation into the BALCO steroid scandal.
Montgomery, who holds the world record in the 100 meters, is at least the fourth track star to meet with USADA officials in the past month, joining his girlfriend, Marion Jones, Kelli White and Michelle Collins.
U.S. beats Honduras
Brian McBride helped to make sure Claudio Reyna's 100th international game had a happy ending.
McBride scored twice to move into second place on the American career list and Reyna became the seventh U.S. player with 100 appearances, leading the United States over Honduras 4-0 Wednesday night in Foxboro, Mass.
Hamm takes lead
Blaine Wilson got an unwanted night off. The rest of the Americans received another gymnastics clinic, courtesy of Paul Hamm.
Seeking his third straight national title, Hamm gathered momentum after a slow start and took the lead Wednesday after preliminaries of the U.S. Gymnastics Championships.
