Shooting case of mistaken identity

Thursday, June 3, 2004 | 10 a.m.

A case of mistaken identity led to a Henderson man being shot in the shoulder Wednesday night after an altercation outside his apartment, police said.

A 52-year-old man, whose name was not released, was shot through the window of his apartment in the 1000 block of Center Street about 8 p.m., Henderson Police spokesman Shane Lewis said.

The victim was in stable condition at University Medical Center late Wednesday, authorities said.

After the shooting, officers arrested 24-year-old Dion Winston in Las Vegas on suspicion of attempted murder, Lewis said. Winston, who does not live in the apartment complex where the shooting took place, allegedly shot into the apartment because he believed the man he had been arguing with was inside, Lewis said.

The shooting was not believed to be gang-related, Lewis said.

"It looks like it was felony stupidity," he said.
