Musical Arts Society presents ‘Gilbert & Sullivan to Broadway’

"Gilbert & Sullivan to Broadway" will be presented Friday and Sunday by the Southern Nevada Musical Arts Society in the Nicholas J. Horn Theatre located at the Community College of Southern Nevada's Cheyenne campus.
Performances are at 8 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. Sunday.
Tickets are $12 for adults and $9 for seniors, students, military and the disabled. For ticket information call the UNLV Performing Arts Center box office at 895-2787. For more information about the program call the Musical Arts Society at 451-6672.
The concert will feature songs from "The Mikado," "The Gondoliers" and "Pirates of Penzance," as well as the music of Irving Berlin and Duke Ellington, according to Douglas Peterson, the Society's musical director.
Tony Arias and Lloyd Ziel, who have appeared on the Las Vegas Strip as "Tony & Lloyd," will perform excerpts from "The Mikado."
Rabbi Gary Golbart will sing "A Modern Major General" from the "Pirates of Penzance," and Robert Peterson will be heard in "Take a Pair of Sparkling Eyes" from "The Gondoliers."
The Musical Arts Chorus, under Peterson's direction, will perform "Irving Berlin: A Century of Song," a medley that will include "Alexander's Ragtime Band," "A Pretty Girl is Like a Melody" and "Puttin' on the Ritz."
The Musical Arts Singers will perform "A Portrait of Duke Ellington," a medley of Ellington selections including "Sophisticated Lady" and "Satin Doll."
The program will conclude with "A Salute to the Armed Forces," "God Bless the U.S.A." by Lee Greenwood, and Berlin's "God Bless America."
