Workshop scheduled on public art projects

The Clark County Parks and Community Services Cultural Division, in partnership with the Nevada Arts Council, is providing a free workshop from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Winchester Cultural Center, 3130 S. McLeod Drive, for artists wishing to enter the expanding field of public art.

The workshop will feature three well-respected and internationally recognized artists with experience in public art projects: Barbara Grygutis of Tucson; Buster Simpson of Seattle and Kevin Berry of Phoenix.

The three artists presenting this workshop are currently working with the Clark County Parks and Community Services Cultural Division to develop a concept plan for a large public trail project in Las Vegas.

The purpose of the workshop is to inform local artists about public art opportunities.

Volunteers sought for help on falls trail

Celebrate National Trails Day by helping the Forest Service stabilize portions of the Mary Jane Falls trail and learn more about the Mount Charleston area from 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Take Highway 95 north to State Route 157, go left on SR 157 for approximately 18 miles. Where the highway switches back to the left, turn right on to Echo Road. Go approximately 0.5 miles, following the Mary Jane Falls signs.

Show up on National Trails Day at the assigned meeting place and time. Strongly suggested supplies and attire include sunscreen, glovers, long pants, hiking boots, and water.

Classes planned for Ski Patrol recruits

The Ski Patrol Department of Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort will start its annual Outdoor Emergency Course on Tuesday.

The EMT level course is for primary responders and is necessary to become a member of the National Ski Patrol.

As patrollers, members assist people on the mountain who need help. A candidate will learn new and valuable skills and improve their own ability on the mountain as well.

Community associations to hear about drought

The Community Association Institute will discuss the drought at a luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Palace Station.

Subjects will include an overview of the valley's water condition, how homeowners and associations can conserve Las Vegas water and what the future holds for community associations.

Guest speakers at the luncheon include Jeanette Michaelson, landscape maintenance superintendent for Del Webb Community Management Co. and a representative from the Las Vegas Valley Water District.
