Wednesday, June 2, 2004 | 8:17 a.m.
Celebrated as the not-to-be-missed event each spring, the Nathan Adelson Hospice fashion luncheon, this year featuring the designs of Oscar de la Renta, drew a capacity crowd to the Four Seasons on May 26.
A benefit for the Nathan Adelson Hospice, with sponsorship by Neiman Marcus and NM General Manager Bill Terry, the luncheon funds services by the non-profit agency to help patients and their families find comfort, support and dignity.
Susan Molasky, wearing a celadon green brocade de la Renta creation, stood with fellow co-chairs Beth Weinberger and Jane Schorr to greet each of the 630 attendees, among them Andrea and Tony Marnell with Alisa Wilson, Elaine and Steve Wynn, Dema Guinn, sisters-in-law Linda and Sandra Richardson, Leslie Parraguirre, Vivica Marshall, Lynn McMullan, Karen Dorsey, Diane Bigelow, Denise Reichartz, Camille Ruvo, Debbie Swissman, Trish Truesdell, Cherie Latham and Robin Townsend with her mother, Jewel Brooks, and Peg and Caty Crockett.
Sampling the champagne and other libations while viewing the auction items were Teri Monsour, Lynn Rosencrantz, Heidi Canarelli, Phyllis McGuire, Ellen Curtis, Susan Graves and Mari Landers, who attended with Marla and Harmony Letizia, Heather Harvey and Abby Geyer.
Making note of the glorious and very feminine fashions for the 2004 winter season were Dr. Miriam Adelson, Lovee Arum, Becky Binion Behnen, Suzanne Chabre, Robin Henderson, Rosalind Krause, Debbie Stewart, Kathy Backer, Tonya Brown, Caroline Ciocca, Florence Rogers, Janet Linder and Brenda O'Boyle.
Hal of a time
Those enjoying Hal Holbrook's 50th anniversary tour as Mark Twain on May 21 were treated to a quality theater experience. The remarkable Holbrook, in this one-man show, brought forth the timeless gems of Twain's long and celebrated life with a style and presentation that was fresh and even timely in the face of recent political events.
Presented at UNLV's Artemus Ham Hall, the evening was also an appreciation event for supporters of KLVX Channel 10 that concluded with a reception in the green room hosted by KLVX General Manager Tom Axtell.
Among the guests greeting Holbrook as he emerged from the backstage were Edythe Katz Yarchever and husband Judge Gil Yarchever, Bernice Fischer, Ken and Betty Miller, Ed and Penny Prudhomme, Jennifer Vaughan, Charlotte Hill, Shaun Sewell, Patricia and Richard Wright and Dr. John Pretto with Karen Eisley. Bob Dunkerley, former artistic director of New West Theatre Company, now with CCSN Theatre Department, was present to receive best wishes on the birth of baby daughter Camille to him and wife Judy.
Others present for the theatrical evening were Sandee Tiberti, Jeanne Brei, Kathleen Froscini, Kathleen Rothermel and Dr. Fritz and Alice Kirschner.
NAWBO event
The National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO), Southern Nevada chapter, are a group known for action in both business and charitable endeavors. The group's May 25 luncheon, led by President Jeanne Richard Jones, included presentations on the General Services Administration (GSA) auctions of seized or unwanted vehicles of every description as well as local home buying with the Housing and Urban Development Agency (HUD).
Held at the Las Vegas Country Club, the luncheon and program included the donation of a $7,000 check to the Ovarian Cancer Alliance of Nevada, accepted by OCAN volunteers Liz Williams and Christina Harris. The donation was part of the charitable proceeds from NAWBO's annual Women of Distinction Awards, held earlier this spring at the MGM Grand Conference Center.
SST season
The governing board and advisory committee for Super Summer Theatre were recently (May 20) hostessed by Alice Rissman at Regency Towers in the Las Vegas Country Club. Gathering to hear details about musical productions planned for Summer 2004 at Spring Mountain Ranch were Carolyn Sparks, Denny Weddle, Adrienne O'Donoghue, Mary Gafford, Roy Orr, Ray Eicher, Harold and Dee Thorne and chairman Jerry Brooks.
Speaking of their specific presentations, cast members and staging were the season's directors: Betty Sullivan Cleary ("Annie Get Your Gun"), Deanna Duplechain ("Kiss Me Kate") and Phil Shelbourne ("Man of La Mancha"). Opening the season on June 9 and running on a Wednesday-through-Saturday schedule for most of the summer, the family-friendly musicals under the stars are enjoyed by many.
