Daytime temperatures to remain above normal

The Las Vegas Valley's official temperature topped out at 102 degrees on Monday, the second time this year daytime temperatures have reached 100 degrees or more, the National Weather Service said.
The 102-degree reading was recorded at McCarran International Airport at 4:03 p.m., weather service meteorologist Jim Harrison said.
This year's first 100-degree day was on May 4, Harrison said.
Daytime temperatures this week will remain about 10 degrees above normal with highs between 101 and 103 degrees, he said.
The heat wave has settled over the Southwest as a dome of high pressure on Monday parked itself over the Great Basin, which is most of Nevada.
It won't cool off that much at night, either, Harrison said. Lows are expected from the mid to upper 70s all week.
There is no rain in the forecast.
Whether this summer will be as hot as last year is anybody's guess, Harrison said.
July 2003 is the hottest month on record for Las Vegas, he said.
"It's not a record we need to break," Harrison said.
