Letter: Rep. Porter is not a strong entry

As we approach Nevada Derby Day (Election Day), it's time for Nevadans to rate the entries based on what they can do for our fair state.
In post position No. 1 is Sen. Harry Reid, a hard-working, very influential Democratic senator. Post position No. 2 is a scratch, as Republican Sen. John Ensign is not running this year, but he also works hard for our state and works well with Sen. Reid on matters that affect Nevada.
In post position No. 3 is Rep. Jim Gibbons, a Republican, who has been about as strong a voice in the House as Sen. Reid has been in the Senate. In position No. 4 is Democrat Rep. Shelley Berkley, who, while she doesn't have the seniority of Mr. Gibbons, adds a strong voice for our state.
Republican Rep. Jon Porter, in No. 5, is a questionable entry. While he seems to be a nice guy, a family man and so forth, he has not distinguished himself and will probably never provide strong repesentation for our state. His Democratic opponent, Tom Gallagher, a former casino executive, should be considered as his replacement.
