No citation in death of casino employee

RENO -- An investigation into the fatal fall of a Silver Legacy Resort Casino employee earlier this month has found the casino did not violate safety standards, according to a report by the Northern Nevada Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

"There was no citations as far as OSHA standards go and no recommendations," said Chris Davis, the agency's district manager.

Valet parking attendant John Michael Davis, 31, of Reno, was killed July 10 using a lift device that carried employees between floors of the casino's parking garage. He suffered head injuries in the fall and died a few hours later at Washoe Medical Center.

OSHA investigators do not know whether John Michael Davis fell directly to the first floor or stepped off a foot platform on the lift and fell.

John Michael Davis had worked as a valet parking attendant at the casino for about six years. New employees receive instructions on using the special elevator known as a "manlift," observe several demonstrations and ride it at least two times with a supervisor, according to the OSHA report.
