Guinn names 102 to state commissions

CARSON CITY -- Gov. Kenny Guinn announced 102 appointments or reappointments to 51 of the state boards and commissions on Friday, including reappointment of three members to the Nuclear Projects Commission.
Those reappointed were former U.S. Sen. Richard Bryan, Larry Brown and Paul Workman, all of Las Vegas to the commission that deals with Yucca Mountain issues.
The governor named Dale Lay of North Las Vegas to the state Public Works Board succeeding Jesse Paulk of Las Vegas and he reappointed Sean Carnahan of Reno. The board has oversight over the state's construction projects.
Tami Bass of Las Vegas and Thomas Goodson of Fallon were reappointed to the state Parole Board that rules on the release of prison inmates
Philip Peckman of Henderson was named to the state Commission on Economic Development replacing Richard Bostdorff of Reno and Peter Thomas of Las Vegas was reappointed. Peckman is president and chief executive officer of the Greenspun Corp. The owners of that corporation, the Greenspun family, also own the Las Vegas Sun.
The governor named former Washoe County Commissioner Jean Stoess of Reno as the public member on the state Board of Medical Examiners, succeeding Jaculine Jones of Fallon whose term expired. The board regulates doctors.
