Letter: Most entertainers are ignorant of current affairs
Friday, July 23, 2004 | 8:54 a.m.
Linda Ronstadt and all other entertainers are merely our modern-day, over-paid versions of yesteryear's court jesters. Thus, I don't care what she and other entertainers think about our country. Most of them are totally unaware, uneducated and, therefore, unappreciative in regard to America's 228 years of success.
Like people in academia, entertainers do not contribute to our country's production of hard goods and the gross national product, even though they are some of the main benefactors of our free-market, capitalistic society and its huge amounts of discretionary spending. I think this is why they are so ignorant of how and why our country works so well.
After the 9/11 tragedy, many entertainers said they didn't know what to do, and that they felt "so insignificant." Let me take the opportunity to point out the obvious -- they are insignificant.
