Blood drives scheduled

Tuesday: 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Community College Southern Nevada, 700 College Drive, Henderson; 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Hill/Weiner Elementary School, 560 E. Eldorado Lane; 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Kindred Hospital, 5110 W. Sahara Ave.; 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. AVI.

Classes offered to cope with cancer
The American Cancer Society is offering I Can Cope, a series of four free educational classes from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Aug. 7, 14, 21 and 28 at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, 3186 S. Maryland Parkway, for people facing cancer either personally, or as a friend or family caregiver.
I Can Cope is a series of classes taught by medical professionals and community representatives. The sessions help dispel cancer myths by presenting facts and answers to cancer-related questions concerning: Learning about cancer and cancer treatment; keeping well in mind and body; understanding feelings and relationships; discovering resources and celebrating life.

Free show focuses on desert tortoise
The Tortoise Group will present "How a Desert Tortoise Works, Part 2," a free slide presentation and demonstration at 1 p.m. Saturday at Nevada State Museum and Historical Society, 700 Twin Lakes Drive in Lorenzi Park, to cover sex, hatchlings, and hibernation.
Biologist, Betty Burge will speak and answer questions. Teachers, tortoise owners, expectant owners, and children are welcome.
