Greenspun Corporation executives promoted

Thursday, July 22, 2004 | 11:02 a.m.

The Greenspun Corporation on Wednesday announced the promotion of Phillip Peckman, chief operating officer, to the positions of president and chief executive officer and to the board of directors.

The Greenspun family, owner of the Las Vegas Sun, owns The Greenspun Corporation. Peckman, who has been chief operating officer, becomes the first non-family member to join the board of directors.

Brian Greenspun, chairman of the board of directors of the corporation, also announced the promotion of Chris Philibbosian from senior vice president to chief operating officer.

Greenspun said the moves are aimed at moving Peckman from operational responsibilities to focusing on strategic opportunities. In this capacity, he will work with Brian Greenspun and his brother Danny Greenspun, vice chairman of the board.

Philibbosian will succeed Peckman in overseeing operations at three of the Greenspun companies: real estate development firm American Nevada Company; Internet travel and entertainment sales firm VEGAS.com; and media company Greenspun Media Group.

"Today marks a transition from our prior structure to one that will position our companies to take advantage of the growth opportunities that we feel exist in Las Vegas," Brian Greenspun said. "Our family has been blessed by the advantages of living in this great state of Nevada, and we believe the growth will continue. These changes will enhance our ability to meet our strategic plan."

Brian Greenspun said that he and Danny Greenspun, along with sisters Susan Greenspun Fine and Janie Greenspun Gale, would continue their active involvement and oversight of the companies.

The Greenspun companies employ more than 600 people. Besides its operating companies, the family is a minority investor in Cox Communications' local cable system and is a partner with Station Casinos Inc. in Green Valley Ranch Station Casino and in Barleys Casino and Brewing Co. The family also has a minority investment in the Palms hotel-casino.
