Papadakis streaks to second victory of season

Stephan Papadakis collected his second victory of the season in Pro RWD at the Garrett Turbos NHRA Sport Compact Nationals Saturday night at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Nelson Hoyos (Pro FWD), Carlos Gonzalez Sr. (Modified), Marty Ladwig (Hot Rod) and Scott Mohler (All Motor) also were winners at the sixth of 10 events in the $2.1 million NHRA Summit Sport Compact Series.
Papadakis, from Redondo Beach, Calif., won his second race in a row and sixth of his career in Pro RWD by defeating Ara Arslanian in the final round of eliminations. Papadakis, who set the national record E.T. of 6.755 seconds during the first round of eliminations, bettered the national mark with a 6.751 at 202.85 mph in the final.
Hoyos, from Hollywood, Fla., powered his GM Racing 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier to his second consecutive victory by defeating Lisa Kubo in the Pro FWD final. Hoyos, the defending category champion, ran a 7.712 at 179.33 to Kubo's 7.821 at 195.05. During eliminations, Hoyos also set the new class E.T. record with a pass of 7.658. The victory was the ninth of his career.
Corey Leclair of Las Vegas won the Super Quick category over Henderson's Mike Reff. The Super Quick category is part of The Strip's Jerry's Nugget Championship Drag Racing Series and was run in conjunction with the NHRA Summit Sport Compact Series.
