EEOC files suit against LV restaurant

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed a lawsuit today in federal court against Las Vegas restaurant Cavalier Restaurant & Lounge, alleging the restaurant fired servers based on their age.
The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court, alleges June Jones, Eva Medley and other workers over 40 were terminated from their food server positions on Aug. 7, 2000, an EEOC press release said. The lawsuit seeks an unspecified amount of back pay and liquidated damages for the workers.
Steve Hunt, general manager of the restaurant, could not be immediately reached for comment on this morning. The restaurant's alleged actions are in violation of the Age Discrimination in Employment Act. The lawsuit was filed after efforts to reach a voluntary settlement with the restaurant's leadership failed, the EEOC said.
