Fishing report: It’s still good on boats and bad along the shore

NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE

Boaters continued to experience fairly good fishing for striped bass while shore anglers were still having difficulty landing fish.

Nevada Department of Wildlife creel census clerks said that boaters fishing the Overton Beach area were successful landing striped bass that ranged from 16 to 18 inches. The fish were taken near Stewarts Point with anchovies and plastic worms.

Anglers fishing near St. Thomas reported success for largemouth bass that ranged from 2 1/2 to 3 pounds. The fish were taken with top-water lures.

Boaters fishing close to the islands in Echo Bay reported success for largemouth bass that averaged 2 1/2 pounds. Anglers said they also caught and released smallmouth bass that ranged from 12 to 14 inches. Stripers that averaged 16 inches and hand-size blue gill were also taken. The fish were taken with anchovies and black plastic worms.

NDOW continued to get reports of boating activity concentrated about 200 yards south of Special Events Beach, which could indicate a school of stripers in the area. Small stripers were also seen feeding on numerous schools of threadfin shad at Horsepower Cove.

Shore anglers experienced some success for striped bass near the causeway at Lake Mead Marina.

LAKE MOHAVE: Willow Beach anglers reported success after the recent rainbow trout stocking. Several anglers reported catching their limit of 10 trout. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service was scheduled to stock rainbow trout today.

WAYNE E. KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA: Very windy conditions limited angler success. Anglers who fished in the early morning before the high winds started blowing landed rainbow trout and largemouth bass. Rainbow trout that ranged from 15 to 16 inches were caught in Haymeadow and Cold Springs reservoirs. The fish were taken with PowerBait and night crawlers.

EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR: Warm weather conditions are forcing anglers to fish in the early mornings and evenings, where they reported success for stocked rainbow trout. The fish were taken with PowerBait and night crawlers.

ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR: Low water levels continue to affect fishing success, but anglers still caught stocked rainbow trout and a few bass. Late afternoon continued to be the best time to fish.

URBAN PARK PONDS: Anglers fishing the ponds at Floyd Lamb State Park, Lorenzi Park, Sunset Park and Veterans Memorial Park in Boulder City reported success for recently stocked catfish. The fish were taken with an assortment of baits.
