Wednesday, July 14, 2004 | 9:31 a.m.
A woman Metro Police said was jaywalking across Flamingo Road near Decatur Boulevard was struck and killed by a pickup truck about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Ellen M. Winouski, 41, of New Jersey had crossed the eastbound lanes of Flamingo and then was struck by a black Ford F150 pickup and thrown 40 feet. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the pickup truck, 26-year-old Jason Rieckmann of Las Vegas, swerved but was unable to avoid the woman, police said.
Rieckmann was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, Metro Detective Dennis Magill said.
"The responding officer smelled alcohol and the driver failed the field sobriety test," Magill said this morning.
It was the fourth fatal auto-pedestrian accident in four days in Metro's jurisdiction and 67th traffic fatality of the year.
The three other fatal pedestrian accidents occurred on freeways.
