Agassi wins 800th match of career

Andre Agassi won the 800th singles match of his career Tuesday night, beating Alex Bogomolov Jr. 6-3, 6-1 in the first round of the Merecedes-Benz Cup in Los Angeles.

The 34-year-old Agassi is just the sixth player to reach 800 on the ATP Tour since the advent of the Open era in 1968, along with Jimmy Connors, Ivan Lendl, Guillermo Vilas, John McEnroe and Stefan Edberg, who joined the group in September 1996.

Crew chief fined

NASCAR on Tuesday fined Kasey Kahne's crew chief $10,000 and put him on probation for his role in a fight in Tony Stewart's pit at Chicagoland Speedway.

Tommy Baldwin was fined $5,000 for violating a rule prohibiting fights in another team's pit area and $5,000 for not controlling crew members. He also was placed on probation until Dec. 31.

Moore 2nd in Publinks

Danny Green shot a 68 to set a 36-hole stroke-play record of 13-under 131 and win medalist honors in the U.S. Amateur Public Links tournament at Maple Grove, Minn. Ryan Moore of UNLV finished second, a stroke behind Green, as the field was cut for the match play portion of the tournament that starts today. Matthew Kodama of Las Vegas failed to make the cut by one stroke.

Miami bans starter

University of Miami cornerback Antrel Rolle was suspended indefinitely after being charged with battery on a police officer.

Ecuador eliminated

Adolfo Bautista scored and drew a penalty to help Mexico eliminate Ecuador from the Copa America tournament with a 2-1 win at Piura, Peru. Mexico, which had already advanced to the quarterfinals, will play Brazil or Paraguay. Argentina beat Uruguay 4-2 in the late game, but both teams had clinched spots in the next round.

Ohio jockey hurt in fall

Jockey Hector Rosario Jr. sustained a concussion and separated shoulder when he was thrown from his mount in the second race at River Downs near Cincinnati.

Weaver is the one

Long Beach State pitcher Jered Weaver won the Golden Spikes Award as amateur baseball's top player for 2004.

Jackman will stay

Defenseman Ric Jackman re-signed with the Pittsburgh Penguins. He was acquired from Toronto in a midseason trade.
