Casinos settle suit over credit reports

Las Vegas-based Imperial Palace Inc. and Biloxi, Miss.-based Imperial Palace of Mississippi Inc. have settled a Federal Trade Commission lawsuit by agreeing to pay a total of $325,000.
The suit alleged the jointly owned hotel-casinos failed to inform job applicants of their credit history rights.
The FTC's lawsuit, filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court, alleges the company based decisions to hire job applicants on their credit reports, but failed to offer those applicants a copy of the credit reports and a written description of their rights under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. A consent decree settling the lawsuit was also filed Tuesday.
The settlement isn't an admission of guilt.
Neither Jeremy Handel, public relations manager, nor Ed Crispell, general manager of the Imperial Palace in Las Vegas, could be reached for commment this morning.
