'Tumblewords'
Author Jennifer Baumer will host a free writing workshop, "Tumblewords," from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at the Silver Mesa Rec Center, 4025 Allen Lane. Baumer will host a reading later that day from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the North Las Vegas Library, 2300 Civic Center Drive. 633-1070.
'Obgon Opon'
Chief Fafore Akinlana will lead a discussion, "Obgon Opon," on the achievements of the Yoruba, Dogon and Egyptian people at 3 p.m. Saturday at the West Las Vegas Arts Center, 947 W. Lake Mead Blvd. Admission is free. 229-4800.
Family film series
The city of Las Vegas' Cultural Affairs Division presents the movie "Dumbo" at 8 p.m. Thursday at Jaycee Park at Eastern Avenue and St. Louis as part of its "Family Film Series." Admission is free.
'Amazing Castle'
The traveling interactive exhibit, "The Amazing Castle," continues until Aug. 29 at the Lied Discovery Children's Museum, 833 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Admission is $6 adults, $5 children 1-17, seniors and military families. 382-3445.
Tai Chi classes
Free classes in the martial art Tai Chi will be taught from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the District at Green Valley Ranch, near the intersection of Green Valley Parkway and Interstate 215. 851-3082.
Acting classes
Clark County Parks & Community Services is offering free acting classes from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. every Wednesday at Whitney Center, 5712 E. Missouri Ave. Pre-registration is requested. 455-7576.
