A mother in Overton says since her son joined Boy Scouts his grades have gone from F's to A's, B's and C's, and she is no longer receiving calls from the dean's office about the boy's behavior.
"He is making wiser choices in friends as well," she writes to the Sun Summer Camp Fund in asking for a scholarship to send the boy to Scout summer camp. "I think he deserves to participate in this positive camping experience to build on the successes he is already achieving."
Unfortunately, because of her mother's recent diagnosis with pancreatic cancer, and the recent purchase of a house, the family does not have the money to send the boy to camp. As it is, the woman said, the children have to pay for their own fees for swim team.
The Sun Summer Camp Fund provides money for camp for children who otherwise would not be able to go because of family finances. The average cost per child is $300, and all donations go directly to pay that. The Las Vegas Sun covers all administrative costs.
