Letter: Pedestrians pose serious danger
Thursday, July 8, 2004 | 8:51 a.m.
During the 20 minutes it took me to drive to UNLV, I witnessed a total of five criminals committing the same crime. There was nothing I could do about it. The best I could hope for was to not run into them.
In one case, the criminal fled the scene in a scurry. In another, the criminal walked away nonchalantly. Then, in others, they looked nervously left and right before taking off.
These people all committed the same crime. What crime am I talking about? I am talking about jaywalking. While I drive, I take the precaution to heed to all the unexpected moves of jaywalkers, keeping a centimeter of air between my right foot and the brake pedal. I do so out of my moral obligation, not my legal obligation.
Crosswalks are made for a reason. Pedestrians should use them.
