Letter: Residency requirement should be longer

I find it sad that Anne DiMartini is accusing District Judge Valorie Vega of political bias after the decision to remove her from the ballot. I've known Judge Vega for a number of years, and I can assure you she would not engage in behavior which would violate judicial canons.
I am also wondering, if Ms. DiMartini wants to run for the state Assembly so badly, why did she not remain in her old district to run against the incumbent? Perhaps she felt that the incumbent there was doing a good job and didn't need to be displaced by her?
In any event, the Legislature should change the residency requirement to a minimum of 90 days in residence prior to the filing deadline to make sure that candidates who want to run for office are serious about meeting the needs of the residents who already reside in a given district.
