In her June 11 letter, Amanda Frey wrote that pedestrians and bike riders don't feel safe in Las Vegas. Well, I am a driver and I don't feel safe from bike riders weaving in and out of traffic, riding in any lane and sometimes coming straight at me in my lane of driving and cussing me for being in their way.
Nor do I feel safe with pedestrians darting in and around cars instead of using a crosswalk or a light signal. Parents with children walk their kids at any place but a safe one. What are they teaching their kids? I was taught to look left and right and repeat it before crossing.
Not long ago I stopped a child of 5 or 6 from crossing the street before his mother, pushing a stroller, caught up. Any thanks? No. His mother said, "Leave my children alone." On the other hand, maybe there is hope. I complimented a mother the other day who had her boy walking his bike through crosswalks. She thanked me.
