'Red, White & Boom'
The Clark County Parks & Community Services will host "Red, White & Boom" from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday at Desert Breeze Park. The event features a carnival area, vendors, 20-minute fireworks display and several musical acts. Admission is $5. 455-8838.
Fourth festival
A free fireworks spectacular and food festival will be held from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday at the Lake Las Vegas Resort. Live music will be provided by Frankie Moreno and Jazz on the Lake with 2 A 'T'. 939-8888.
The Can Doos
The Can Doos, a performance troupe, will perform a combination of music, storytelling, trick roping, yodeling, baton twirling and puppetry at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Thursday at the Winchester Cultural Center Theater, 3130 S. McLeod Drive, as part of the Clark County Parks and Community Services' "Young People's Summer Concerts" series. Admission is $3. 455-7340.
First Friday
The Arts District on Colorado Avenue will be closed off from 3rd Street to Main Street for pedestrian traffic for activities from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. today. Artist booths, live music and barbecues will be featured. 384-0092.
'Eight Men Out'
The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District presents the movie "Eight Men Out" at 8 p.m. Monday at the Rainbow Library Ampitheater, 3150 N. Buffalo Drive, as part of its "Moonlight, Movies and Music" series. Admission is free. 507-3613.
Family film series
The city of Las Vegas' Cultural Affairs Division presents the movie "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" at 8 p.m. Thursday at Jaycee Park at Eastern Avenue and St. Louis as part of its "Family Film Series." Admission is free.
Poitier films
Las Vegan Stan Armstrong presents the 1977 movie "A Piece of the Action" at 6 p.m. Thursday in the West Las Vegas Library Theatre, 951 W. Lake Mead Blvd., as part of his ongoing series on the work of Sidney Poitier. Admission is free. 507-3980.
Children's film
The Cultural Affairs Division of the City of Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services presents the movie "A Bug's Life" at 2 p.m. Thursday at the East Las Vegas Community/Senior Center, 250 N. Eastern Ave., as part of its "Summer Children's Film Series." Admission is free. 229-1515.
'Spectacular'
The city of Las Vegas Cultural Affairs Division and the Las Vegas Philharmonic present a "Star-Spangled Spectacular" at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Hills Park on Hillpointe Road, west of Rampart. Patriotic music will be followed by a fireworks show. Advance tickets are $15 adults, $10 children 6-12, free children 5 and under. Tickets at the gate are $20 adults, $15 children 6-12. 895-2787.
July 4th carnival
Sports Center Las Vegas, 121 N. Sunset Road, opens its doors from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday for a Fourth of July Carnival "Boom." Activities will include rock climbing, indoor golf, water slides and an evening comedy show. Admission is $15 general, free for children 12 and under. 317-7777.
'Amazing Castle'
A traveling interactive exhibit, "The Amazing Castle," continues until Aug. 29 at the Lied Discovery Children's Museum, 833 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Admission is $6 adults, $5 children 1-17, seniors and military families. 382-3445.
Tai Chi classes
Free classes in the martial art Tai Chi will be taught from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the District at Green Valley Ranch, near the intersection of Green Valley Parkway and Interstate 215. 851-3082.
Acting classes
Clark County Parks & Community Services is offering free acting classes from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. every Wednesday at Whitney Center, 5712 E. Missouri Ave. Pre-registration is requested. 455-7576.
