Holiday closings
Thursday, July 1, 2004 | 8:11 a.m.
Independence Day commemorates the American colonies declaring independence from England. The Declaration of Independence was adopted on July 4, 1776, and was followed by the Revolutionary War, which ended when the British surrendered at Yorktown, Pa., on Oct. 19, 1781. Because the Fourth is on a Sunday, the holiday generally will be recognized on Monday. Here's what is open and closed Monday:
SAFETY: Police and fire emergency services as usual. Administrative offices closed.
UTILITIES: Open: Sprint. Closed: Southwest Gas, Nevada Power, Las Vegas Valley Water District, Cox Communications cable TV.

North Las Vegas and Boulder City libraries normally are closed Sundays and will be closed this Sunday.
