Lou Toomin, a retired businessman from Las Vegas who served one term in the Assembly but has since become a perennial candidate, says he will run for the Assembly in District 15.
The seat is now held by Assemblywoman Kathy McClain, a Democrat, who was fired from her county job last year because officials determined that she had violated county policy by collecting county pay while serving during the Legislative session.
Toomin was a Democrat when he was elected to the Assembly in 1992 and served one term but has since changed to the GOP. In the 2002 election, he was defeated in the Republican primary election for District 15 by Dr. Lonnie Hammargren.
He lost in 2000 when he challenged state Sen. Valerie Wiener, a Democrat in District 3. He lost in 1998 when he went up against state Sen. Bob Coffin, a Democrat.
