Fishing Report: Trout-like lures bring success at lake

NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Boaters and shore anglers reported to Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) creel census clerks that they experienced good success for striped bass throughout the lower basin of Lake Mead.
Shore anglers fishing the Saddle Cove area had good success for stripers that ranged from 4-6 pounds. Lures that resemble trout were landing the fish.
Boaters fishing the Boulder Beach area were successful landing stripers that averaged 16 inches. Anchovies were the bait of choice.
Overton Beach anglers reported limited success for crappie. The fish were taken with grubs near St. Thomas and the area behind Fish Island. Boaters had some success for largemouth bass earlier in the week. The fish averaged 15 inches and were taken with crankbait.
Boaters fishing the Echo Bay area had fair success landing striped bass that ranged from 12-14 inches. The fish were taken around the islands and close to shore. Anchovies and crankbait were landing the fish.
Hemenway, Horsepower Pumphouse and North Saddle Coves are scheduled to be stocked with rainbow trout today.
Boaters fishing the Willow Beach area reported an increase in striper activity. A striped bass that weighed in at 31.5 pounds was taken at mile marker 51 with an O'Henry lure. Another boater fishing at mile marker 4 with an AC Plug reported good catches with the largest striper weighing in at 19 pounds.
Shore anglers were successful landing stocked rainbow trout that averaged 11 inches. PowerBait and worms were landing the fish.Willow Beach is scheduled to be stocked with rainbow trout today.
Haymeadow anglers reported good success for rainbow trout that averaged 15 inches. Anglers fishing Cold Springs had similar success for smaller trout that measured 13 inches. PowerBait and worms were taking the fish.
A daytime temperature reached a high of 51 degrees while the nights dipped into the low teens last week.
