New blood drive planned for child
A final blood drive to benefit Chrissy Nelson, a leukemia patient in need of a bone marrow transplant, will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Rio.
If a bone marrow match is found for the 8-year-old cancer patient, she will need a large amount of blood and platelets until her bone marrow can produce its own components.
For more information call 228-8400. Donors also can donate at any of the five United Blood Services centers on Nelson's behalf. For appointments call 233-9620.
Eligible donors must be at least 17 years old and 110 pounds. Typical donation time is 60 to 90 minutes.
Motorcycle auction benefits hospital
The third annual Vintage, Classic and Special Interest Motorcycle Auction sponsored by Mid-America Auctions of St. Paul, Minn., will be held at noon, followed by a silent auction at 7 p.m. Thursday to benefit the Children's Hospital.
The event will resume at 11 a.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday, all at the Tropicana.
National and international buyers, sellers and motorcycle enthusiasts are expected to attend the three-day event. Several hundred vintage and classic motorcycles will be auctioned. Collectable and ride-able BMWs, Triumphs, Vincents, Harley Davidsons, Hondas, Indians, Kawasakis and many more out-of-date and out-of-production motorcycles will be on available. A portion of the sales proceeds will be donated to the Clark County Museum.
Historic motorcycle memorabilia and publications will also be available at the auction.
Admission is $10 for adults per day.
