Try your luck at a new fishing hole found in our neck of the woods -- Mesquite.
Fishing is now available in Clark County's fifth urban pond. This newly constructed pond is located in Hafen Lane Park and has been stocked with an initial trout plant by the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW). An additional plant will take place in the spring.
"The new pond offers anglers in the Mesquite area a great place to escape for a day, or a few hours, of fishing." said NDOW spokesman Geoff Schneider. "We hope that parents will visit the pond and introduce their children to a lifetime of enjoyment that can be found through fishing."
The other four fishing ponds in Clark County are located in Floyd Lamb State Park, Lorenzi Park, Sunset Park and Veterans Memorial Park in Boulder City. NDOW's trout stocking program takes place at the urban parks from fall through early spring.
Anglers 12 and older who are fishing at the urban ponds, including the one in Mesquite, are required to have a Nevada fishing license and trout stamp.
The grand opening of the Hafen Lane Park is set for 11:30 a.m. Call 346-2835 for details.
Besides enjoying fishing while visiting the park, there are a variety of other outdoor recreational activities in the area.
Besides Mesquite's seven golf courses, available outdoor activities include skeet shooting, horseback riding, hiking and nine miles of bike/pedestrian/ATV trails.
