Ted unveils fares; Delta adds LV flight

Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004 | 11:07 a.m.

United Airlines' low-cost carrier, which will debut Feb. 12 with flights between Denver and Las Vegas, has announced ticket prices on its Las Vegas routes.

The company's Internet site says tickets to Denver on Ted will cost $298 for a round trip, compared with the unrestricted fare of $636 on the United mainline. Low-fare competitor Frontier offers tickets on the route for $342 on its Internet site.

The company also said round trips to Los Angeles and San Francisco on Ted would cost $77 and $195, respectively, compared with $405 and $477 unrestricted on United's mainline.

Low-cost competitors Southwest and America West Airlines match prices on the Los Angeles route, the only one in which all three compete.

Ted, which will use twin-engine Airbus A320 jets and be equipped with free seatback entertainment systems, initially will offer service between Denver and Reno, Phoenix, New Orleans, Tampa, Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Ontario, Calif., as well as Las Vegas.

Meanwhile, Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines announced Wednesday that it would offer a round-trip flight between New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport and Las Vegas beginning June 1.

The route currently is served by Delta's Song Airways low-cost subsidiary as well as America West and JetBlue Airways.

The new route is a part of Delta's increased emphasis in New York, regarded as a competitive push against JFK Airport-based JetBlue.
